Our Reintegration Pathways
Supporting people before release, after release, and throughout their journey back into community.
Bond Trust works alongside the Fellowship Support Network (FSN), community partners, and service providers to support safe, relational, and evidence-based reintegration across Aotearoa.
Grounded in dignity, accountability, and connection
Bond Trust works alongside the Fellowship Support Network (FSN), community partners, and service providers to support safe, relational, and evidence-based reintegration across Aotearoa. Our approach is grounded in dignity, accountability, and the belief that people grow best through connection.
The koru guides this mahi, symbolising new beginnings, steady growth, and the unfolding of human potential.
Pre-Release Support
Most direct pre-release support is delivered by our close partners, the Fellowship Support Network (FSN). FSN volunteers begin meeting with people in the later stages of their sentence, building meaningful, trusting relationships that continue into the community.
Their pre-release mahi includes:
- preparing people for parole
- linking them with experienced parole lawyers
- identifying and strengthening whānau and community connections
- planning for practical needs such as accommodation, ID, transport, and health
- walking alongside people as they navigate expectations and responsibilities
Bond supports this work by strengthening the systems, relationships, and sector capability that make safe reintegration possible.
Post-Release Mentoring
FSN continues to walk with people after release, offering steady, grounded support through the early days of freedom, a period often marked by uncertainty, pressure, and rapid change.
Post-release mentoring includes
- support with routines, appointments, and community expectations
- advocacy with agencies such as Corrections, Police, MSD, housing providers, and health services
- peer support and informal mentoring
- regular social gatherings that build belonging and reduce isolation
- relational support that strengthens protective factors such as identity, stability, and hope
Where Bond adds weight
Bond complements this by working at the system level, improving pathways, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring reintegration practice is consistent, evidence-based, and dignity-forward.

Community Partnerships
Reintegration succeeds when communities are involved in safe, structured, and well-supported ways. Bond works with a wide range of partners across Aotearoa, including:
- rehabilitation and reintegration service providers
- kaupapa Māori and whānau-centred organisations
- faith communities
- peer support and lived-experience networks
- statutory partners (Corrections, Police, Parole Board)
- academic and research partners
These partnerships reflect the interwoven fronds of the koru, each bringing unique strengths that contribute to safer, more connected communities.
Training & Capability Building
Bond has developed a comprehensive training programme grounded in restorative practice, trauma-informed engagement, ethical boundaries, and cultural safety. Originally designed for volunteers, this programme is now being adapted for:
- service providers
- new practitioners entering the sector
- peer support workers
- faith-based and community groups
Our long-term goal is to progress this programme toward a recognised NZQA qualification, helping to build a consistent, skilled, and well-supported reintegration workforce across Aotearoa.
Training modules include
- restorative and dignity-forward practice
- trauma-informed engagement
- boundaries and ethical practice
- communication and de-escalation
- protective factors and safe reintegration
- whānau and community engagement
Capability grows like the koru, steadily, reflectively, and with strong foundations.
One purpose across every pathway
Across pre-release support, post-release mentoring, community partnerships, and sector capability building, Bond Trust and FSN share a single purpose: Bringing On New Days for people returning to the community, and strengthening the wellbeing and safety of Aotearoa as a whole.
